Honduras Requirements

PLEASE NOTE THAT AMERICA WORLD IS NOT ACCEPTING NEW APPLICATIONS TO THE HONDURAS PROGRAM AT THIS TIME.
Processing Time
From application until arriving home with child is 4+ years. The greatest determining factor is the adoptive family’s child request information and children available.
Children Available
Healthy children age 6 and older are available. Waiting children are available, which can be a child ages 3-13 years with a medical condition, sibling sets, or healthy children over the age of 7 years. Boys are more available than girls. Sibling sets may be requested but cannot be guaranteed. Families can specifically request a child with a medical need. Medical needs include; heart conditions, blood conditions, limb differences, vision or hearing impairments, cleft lip/palate, brain or developmental conditions, cerebral palsy.
Parents' Ages
Both parents should be over 25 and no older than 51 years of age at the time of adoption. There must be 15 years between the age of the child and the ages of both parents. There should also be no more than 15 years age difference between husband and wife.
Marriage Status
Married couples and single women may adopt from Honduras. Married couples must be married a minimum of three years.
Divorce
No more than two divorces per each prospective adoptive parent.
Children in Family
Families having more than three children under the age of 18 already living in the home must show ability to add another child to their family.
Income
Families must be able to show they can adequately provide financially for their children. A family’s income and full financial status will be evaluated as part of the adoption process.
Criminal History
Any criminal history will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Medical & Psychological History
Adoptive applicants must show that they are physically and mentally fit to parent a child by adoption. A letter from your physician and a psychological report will be required along with a family’s home study report.
Travel
This is a two trip process and both parents must travel to receive the child and again for the court process in Honduras. The anticipated time line on the first trip is 7-10 days and on the second trip 7-10 weeks. Families will travel on the first trip 1-2 weeks after receiving a referral of a child. The wait time between the first and second trip will be 2-4 months. Although both parents must travel for the second trip one parent may return home after the court hearing and the adoption decree has been signed.
Post Adoption
Post Adoption Reports completed by the home study agency and requiring a social worker visitation must be completed at 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 months from the date of adoption finalization. Annual self reports from the adoptive family will be required until the adopted child(ren) is 18 years of age.
