Haiti Requirements

NOTE: Due to the quota imposed by the Haitian Government, AWAA’s Haiti Program is closed to new applicants.

Processing Time
From dossier submission to arriving home with a child is 24 - 48 months. The greatest determining factor is the adoptive family's child request information.
Children Available
The children available from Haiti include infants to 15 years of age. Healthy boys and girls are available for adoption, as well as children with medical needs. Sibling groups are also available. Unrelated children are no longer available as Haiti prohibits the adoption of unrelated children.
Parents' Ages
One parent must be 30 years old. Both parents must be under the age of 50. Single women must be between the ages 35-50.
Marriage Status
Married couples and single women may adopt from Haiti. Married couples must be married a minimum of 5 years.
Divorce
No more than two divorces permitted per family.
Children in Family
There is no limit to the number of biological or adopted children in the home.
Income
Families must be able to show they can adequately provide financially for their children. A family’s income and full financial status will be evaluated as part of the adoption process.
Criminal History
No criminal history permitted.
Medical History
Applicants must show that they are physically and mentally fit to parent a child by adoption. A letter from your physicial and a psychological report will be required along with the home study report.
Travel to Country
This is a two-trip process. Both parents must travel to meet their child and file I-800 in Haiti (14 days) and again to bring the child home (5-7 days).
Post Adoption
Post adoption reports are due at 1, 6, 12 & 18 months, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 years. The reports at 6, 12, 18 & 24 months are written by a social worker and the remaining reports are self reports written by the family.
