El Salvador Requirements

El Salvador is open for waiting children adoptions.
Processing Time
Application through dossier submission will take approximately 4-7 months. The wait time from dossier approval through referral acceptance and approval can vary and be long and unpredictable. It is expected this timeframe will take 6-18 months from dossier approval to acceptance of a waiting child referral. After accepting a referral it can take an additional 6-8 months to wait for other approvals and to travel. These timeframes are unpredictable and subject to increase.
Children Available
Current waiting children referrals are girls ages 12 and above or boys ages 10 and above, healthy or with medical needs. Sibling group are also available. Some younger children with moderate to severe medical needs are available for adoption.
Parents' Age
Applicants must be between 25–55 years old at the time of dossier submission. Must be at least 15 years older but no more than 45 years older than the adopted child.
Marriage Status
Couples must be married a minimum of 5 years. Single women can adopt.
Divorce
Permitted (maximum of two per spouse).
Children in Family
Families with 3 or more children living in the home are considered on a case by case basis.
Income
Families must be able to show they can adequately provide financially for their children. A family's income and full financial status will be evaluated as part of the adoption process.
Criminal History
No criminal history permitted. Minor instances reviewed on a case by case basis.
Medical History
No major medical issues permitted. Chronic medical issues that require medication are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Travel to Country
Both parents must be present for the court appointment. Average stay is 4-6 weeks.
Post Adoption
Post adoption reports are at 1, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months.
